Power generators engage La Capra to improve their understanding of power markets, including market pricing, reliability planning, asset valuation, and renewable energy and emissions markets.

Large and small project developers have purchased wholesale market price forecasts from us, and we have advised them on the expected performance of their assets under a range of potential market outcomes. The La Capra team has also performed numerous studies of electricity prices in various U.S. and international power markets in order to evaluate both the value and the exposure of proposed power resources.

La Capra has assisted many power generation owners on engagements related to the future dispatch and market revenues associated with existing generating assets in New England and New York for acquisition purposes. These generation facilities have included hydro, gas-fired, coal-fired, and renewable assets.

We also devised various scenarios to test project risks. La Capra has supported many of the generating facility applications advanced to siting agencies in New England over the past ten years.

We have provided presentations analyzing the need for new power supplies in the region, the impact of new facilities on reliability, regional emissions, and economic impacts. These presentations include various projections tailored to the deregulated restructured power market.

We can assess the unique operating and attribute characteristics of renewable energy projects to support the development of revenue and financial projections.

Our team understands a variety of renewable generation technologies and recognizes the barriers that have to be overcome to integrate these technologies into the electric system.

This knowledge along with our expertise in power contracting and pricing allows us to provide multiple services for our power generation clients.

WHO WE SERVE

Cape Wind Associates, LLC
La Capra Associates conducted reliability, economic and environmental need assessments for Cape Wind’s application to the MA Energy Facilities Siting Board for approval of an underwater transmission line connecting a proposed 400 MW off-shore wind farm to the New England grid at a point on Cape Cod. Issues included the implications for improved regional power supply adequacy, renewable portfolio requirements compliance, and public benefits assessment associated with the project, including energy price and emissions reductions. La Capra provided expert witnesses for the siting hearings.
